Initially, KineticSkunk™ laid the foundation with critical networking infrastructure to support the diverse services resulting in the HealthTech System Overhaul. We set up a robust VPC configuration. Balancing one public and one private subnet across dual availability zones. Complete with a NAT Gateway and an Internet Gateway to secure traffic flow. Additionally, we employed Network Access Control Lists (NACLs) to fortify overall network security, ensuring airtight protection.
An Application Load Balancer was strategically placed in the public subnet. Thus directing traffic efficiently to the client’s gateway application for specific requests. Subsequently, we crafted a versatile EC2 module paired with a standardized userdata.sh script, enhancing start-up processes across different application instances. This script adeptly handled the downloading of necessary service-specific installation and configuration files. Once the backbone was established, we moved to refine the deployment workflow. Therefore, a CodeBuild pipeline was established for each client application to automate the build process. Making retrieving code from GitHub, and deploying it securely on S3 for easy download and installation by the servers.
In the realm of configuration management, AWS Systems Manager (SSM) Parameter Store became the repository for application settings, with instance profiles granting tailored access to requisite parameters.
Lastly, the migration process included the existing RDS deployment, which we transitioned seamlessly into the new VPC, ensuring it was securely locked down and fully integrated into the upgraded ecosystem.
